Gironde by bicycle
Gironde is crisscrossed by a mixed network of cycling routes. There are over 700 km of cycle paths
and more than 2000 km of hiking trails particularly suitable for mountain biking.
The department’s network is completed by 453 km of cycle paths and bicycle lanes in built-up areas – and so it should be in France’s biggest department!
Safe and serene cycling through endlessly
varied surroundings – that’s what Gironde has on offer.
In South Gironde, paths take you through the pine forests of Europe’s largest forest massif.
In Entre-deux-Mers, cyclotourists can make their way across low hillsides and through peaceful valleys along the Roger Lapébie greenway.
In Médoc, you can peddle along 120 km of coastline, from Pointe de Grave to Arcachon, taking time off to admire the sights adorning the châteaux road. There is no lack of bicycle-hire outlets on hand wherever you are in Gironde.
If you want to be fully prepared for your cycling holiday, the Carnet de Voyage CYCLO explores the Gironde network’s basic layout through 6 itineraries over 410 km, providing a detailed map for each sector along with suggestions on what to see and useful addresses. It also enables you to plan treks and tours throughout Gironde, whisking you away in discovery of the Department’s countless riches with the minimum amount of peddling.
