A Gironde whose shores are washed by the Atlantic Ocean, where the silence that reigns over the Leyre as it meanders its way through the countryside, the shadowy depths of the great pine forests, and the fishermen’s huts and romantic villas typical of the Basin provide a marvellous setting that is the envy of the world.

Cycling is an ideal way to explore the extraordinary diversity of the Arcachon Basin’s  landscapes.

The Arcachon Basin is a perfect destination for relaxed cycling holidays, whatever you and your family’s levels of skill, as well as for  more energetic adventuring along its highways and byways.

The countryside is largely flat beyond the edges of the Great Dune of Pilat and a network of cycle paths takes you in discovery of the region from an original angle. Set off on a tour of the oyster-farming villages of Piraillan, l'Herbe and La Vigne, and admire the view of Île-aux-Oiseaux.  Make a few detours to explore the Basin’s narrow little creeks or to cycle the fine sandy beaches that stretch alongside the pine forests to its north and south as far as they eye can see. Follow the paths leading to the beautiful beaches of the “California of Europe”, often completely deserted and, in any case, where you never have to look for a spot to lay your towel.

What a programme!

The shade provided by the forestland for hours at a time, or even throughout the day, makes for pleasant cycling even in the middle of summer – ideal for a family outing.

 Tour of the Arcachon Basin

There’s nothing like a bicycle for exploring the inner world of the Arcachon Basin, its beaches, forests and picturesque little ports. This family itinerary takes you to the Teich Ornithological Park  and the Domaine de Certes, before boarding a boat bound for Cap-Ferret.
