Take the little roads across the marshes to the shores of the Estuary. Immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of these wild landscapes and  wide open spaces before cycling by hillsides planted with vines and cereals to the  Bordeaux vineyards of Côtes de Blaye and  Côtes de Bourg. Take the time to stop a while and admire a château there or a 12th -century church there, its glazed tilework shining like a lighthouse.

Travel the road alongside the shores of the Estuary to discover Blaye and the famous Citadel built by Vauban, majestically overlooking the Estuary from the heart of the town and providing breath-taking  panoramic views over Gironde.

Continue on to Bourg en Gironde along the “Corniche Fleurie”, where countless palm trees, rose bay trees and green oaks bear witness to the surpassing mildness of the climate.

Lovers of fine stone will not be disappointed in Bourg en Gironde, an architectural jewel clinging to its rock and defended by its walls – the village is one of the most beautiful and best preserved anywhere in the Estuary.

And finally, don’t miss out on one of the oldest decorated caves in the world, remarkable testimony to the artistic talents of prehistoric man.

A cycle path leaving from Blaye follows an old railway line and takes you through a series of vineyards and little villages to Etauliers (13km).
