This, too, is a Gironde more than worth your attention!  A limitless horizon opens up before you as you cross the immense Médoc peninsula,  bathed in sunlight to the west and set in a forest that knows no end, the majestic shimmering  Atlantic Ocean lapping its shores,  its beaches stretching as far as the eye can see.

And to the east, the  Gironde Estuary  sets the scene for a whole range of unmissable  treks in discovery of its renowned winegrowing châteaux and their vine-covered slopes.

Take the wine road and acquaint yourself with the most famous châteaux, great names such as Giscours, Margaux, Pauillac, Lafite Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild.

The extraordinary diversity of the region’s landscapes, across  marshes  and alongside horse farms and fish farms should be more than enough to satisfy the most demanding of visitors.

The countryside takes you past hillsides and mills, medieval fortresses and villages, to superb  Romanesque churches and Gallo-Roman ruins, irresistible invitations to linger a while and immerse yourself in the local heritage.

Cycle paths making their way through woodland and forest, and byroads with few ups and downs to cope with, running alongside  watercourses and vineyards, lead you into the heart of an exceptionally diverse preserved natural environment.

The Maison du Tourisme et du Vin de Pauillac has three cyclotourism itineraries on offer, from 5 to 21 km, taking you across the local vineyards. The itineraries are invitations to wander carefree along the river’s edge and into the midst of the vines, between forest and marshland. From Pauillac, you can also join the Saint Julien and Saint Laurent tours.
