Le Verdon-sur-Mer: The Cordouan Lighthouse

Nicknamed “the Versailles of the sea” and “lighthouse of kings, king of lighthouses”, Cordouan (listed as a Historical Monument in 1862) is Europe’s oldest lighthouse (16th  century) and the doyen of French lighthouses still in operation. This magnificent sentinel, located 9 km offshore, comprises six Renaissance-style storeys and contains a chapel dedicated to King Louis XIV. Visits depart from Le Verdon port.
