The calm waters on the Arcachon Basin make safe bathing for children, who can also have fun gathering cockles and clams at low tide.

On the Atlantic side, the  ocean beaches of Grand-Crohot, Truc Vert and Horizon make great playgrounds for surfers and recreational fishing enthusiasts.

Kids will love the Little Train that runs from Cap-Ferret point (departing from Bélisaire jetty) to the ocean. (+33 5 56 60 62 57)

And if you feel like crossing the Basin to take a look at Cap-Ferret face on, you can do it any day in summer. A shuttle makes the Cap Ferret/Arcachon crossing every hour from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Evening crossings from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (+33 6 25 16 33 16)

Also not to be missed is the climb up the 258 steps to the top of  Cap-Ferret lighthouse, to take in the whole of the Arcachon Basin, the Great Dune of Pilat and the  Atlantic Ocean. Thrills guaranteed!
