The resort is a major draw for surfers, and every year in August hosts the “Lacanau Pro”, one of the major stages in the Surfing World Championship and France’s longest-running surfing competition (since 1979).

There are 7 surfing clubs in the resort – surfing is considered something of a religion here!

Lacanau-Océan also boasts a network of cycle tracks and footpaths. And just 6 km from the resort, Lake Lacanau is both a peaceful spot devoted to bathing and fishing, and a training site for the  French water-skiing team.

A wide marked-out pathway, starting from Longarisse, winds along the south-western lakeshore, among reeds, water lilies and wooded dunes. The GR 8 also runs alongside the lake, taking you through the forest to the Lacanau-Océan resort (6km) and on to Lège-Cap-Ferret (16 km). Kayakers can also get through to the Arcachon Basin along the Porge Channel to the south of the lake.

Océan nord, Océan centre, Océan sud, Océan Supersud, Le Moutchic and La Grande Escoure beaches have all been awarded the Blue Flag label.
