Soulac-Sur-Mer
The resort is a listed “village ancien” and boasts almost 500 19th -century villas, the oldest of which are on the seafront and were built in the early 1860s.
Behind the dune, in the shelter of the forest, stand a number of wood, brick and stone villas from the early 1900s, many of them with highly elaborate frontages boasting wooden lacework and turrets.
A f amily seaside resort and water-sports centre par excellence , Soulac-sur-Mer also contains one of Gironde’s finest religious edifices, the 12th -century Notre-Dame-de-la-Fin-des-Terres Basilica. This is a major stop-off for pilgrims on the Way of Saint James of Compostela and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The beaches of L'Amélie, Plage Sud and Plage Ville have all been awarded the Blue Flag label.
